Program Overview

When you’re training to become a nurse, there’s simply no substitute for hands-on experience. At Covenant School of Nursing (CSON), you’ll not only learn in the classroom—you’ll participate in skill-oriented labs and work in clinical situations at nearly 20 different health care facilities in the Lubbock area. In fact, you’ll begin working directly with patients early in your training and spend two or more days each week in clinical settings for the entire two-year program.

Our program is a full-time, 64-week hospital-based diploma program that follows the completion of 8 specific prerequisite courses at an accredited college or university of your choice. Guided by a Master’s prepared nursing faculty, students who successfully complete our program are eligible for licensure as a registered nurse (RN). An LVN—RN Transition Program is also offered to licensed vocational nurses (LVN) and licensed practical nurses (LPN) for completion of their registered nursing education.

To graduate from Covenant School of Nursing, students must be able to fully attend and successfully complete all classroom, lab and clinical components of each required nursing course. They must also sit for the National Council Licensure Examination-RN (NCLEX-RN) licensing exam.

Graduates of CSON are then streamlined into the nursing program at Lubbock Christian University’s (LCU) to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. This transition takes place approximately 3 months after graduation from CSON and takes 2 semesters to complete. All students must pass the National Council Licensure Examination—RN (NCLEX—RN) before entering LCU. Covenant encourages graduates to complete higher levels of education by receiving their Masters (MSN), Family Practitioner License, or even PhD in Nursing. Nursing Educators are in short supply, so think about the role of an instructor as your end goal.
