(LUBBOCK) – Learn the stories behind some of today’s most popular songs at the 10th Annual Storytellers benefit hosted by the Covenant Children’s Hospital Development Board. This year’s event will be Saturday, June 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Cactus Theatre, 1812 Buddy Holly Avenue.
The featured Storytellers are Allen Shamblin, Casey Beathard and Mike Reid. This year, Shamblin won both the CMA and ACM Song of the Year for Miranda Lambert’s hit “The House That Built Me.” He has also worked with many other artists including Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton and “Prince.”
Beathard is a Grammy-nominated American country music songwriter who has co-written singles for several country music artists including “How ‘Bout Them Cowgirls” by George Strait and “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems” by Kenny Chesney.
Reid is a Grammy winner and was inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame in 2005. He has written hits for Willie Nelson, Ronnie Milsap and Wynonna Judd. He also had his own No. 1 hit with “Walk on Faith,” which he wrote and sang.
The proceeds from this year’s Storytellers event will be used to purchase bedded warmers for NICU. The warmers will allow the NICU to provide a warm, nurturing environment to premature babies and micropreemies being treated at Covenant.. The warmers are used to help sustain life and prevent hypothermia for NICU patients.
Heavy hors d’ oeuvres will be served at Cactus Courtyard prior to the program beginning at 6:30 p.m., and attendees will be able to meet the songwriters following the event at 10 p.m.
