(LUBBOCK) – Following child safety seat laws is essential to keep children safe while out on the road. Make sure you are obeying the law by attending a free car safety seat check on Saturday, March 26 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Second Baptist Church, 6109 Chicago Ave.
Certified inspectors will be available to check if car seats are properly installed. While 96 percent of parents and caregivers believe their child safety seats are properly secured, research shows seven out of 10 children are improperly restrained according to www.seatcheck.org.
The event will also include bike safety demonstrations. People who want to participate are asked to bring their bike or tricycle and their bike helmet. Children will learn proper hand signals to be used when riding a bike and will participate in a short safety course.
In 2009, 17 percent of bike riders injured in an accident with a motor vehicle were 14 years old or younger according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The car safety seat and bike helmet safety checks are free and open to the community. The event is sponsored by Covenant Heath System, Second Baptist Church and B-Regional Advisory Council.
