Learn about the importance of being aware of your family’s health history, especially when it comes to a history of heart disease, at the April Heart Matters free seminar hosted by Covenant Health. The “Cardiac Disease and the Family” presentation will be from 9 – 10 a.m. on Friday, April 22 at the Knipling Education Conference Center.
Join Wes Everett, a Covenant Health heart patient, as he discusses how heart disease has affected his family and how being aware of his family’s health history helped him to make necessary changes to live a long and healthy life. He will discuss the steps he has taken toward keeping his heart healthy and changing his family’s pattern of developing heart disease.
According to the American Heart Association (AHA), there are major risk factors associated with developing cardiac disease that cannot be changed. People with a family history of heart disease are more likely to develop heart problems. The AHA also says people with uncontrollable risk factors often have one or more other factors present, so it is important to treat any controllable risk factors such as weight and diet.
Cardiac disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. Being aware of a family history of cardiac disease can enable people to make proactive lifestyle changes to help combat the development of heart problems.
