(LUBBOCK) – Hospice of Lubbock will host its 21st annual children’s grief camp entitled “The Mystical, Magical Wonder of Grief” on Friday, July 22 from 6 – 10 p.m. and Saturday, July 23 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
The camp is for children 5 to 17 years of age, who have experienced the death of a family member or friend within the past two years. Hospice of Lubbock employees, counselors and volunteers will be available to offer their support and help attendees through the grieving process.
“We offer this camp because we realize kids are forgotten grievers. We want to help kids and their families handle grief in a healthy way,” Charley Wasson, director of Hospice of Lubbock, said.
Friday, July 22 is movie night. Children will enjoy a movie, snacks and fun. Saturday will revolve around crafts and games based on the movie shown. Every activity is driven to teach a lesson on how to handle grief. Lunch will be provided.
“This camp is beneficial to kids because it teaches them effective ways to cope with loss,” Wasson said.
Hospice employees and counselors will meet with parents at the end of the camp to teach them effective ways to talk with their child and help them navigate through their grief process.
The camp is free of charge and the deadline to register is Friday, July 8.
