(LUBBOCK) – Lady Raider fans are urged to trade red and black for pink to raise breast cancer awareness at the Sunday, Feb. 12 annual Play4Kay game sponsored by Covenant Health. Fans wearing pink will get into the game for $5 in support of the cause. The first 500 fans to arrive at the United Spirit Arena (USA) will receive a free pink pompom to cheer the Lady Raiders on as they face-off against Iowa State.
Prior to the 1:30 p.m. tip-off, Covenant Health, in partnership with other local businesses, will host a free health fair for Lady Raider fans. The health fair will include blood pressure checks, blood sugar checks and other important health information. The screenings kick off at 12:30 p.m. on the concourse level of the arena and will last until halftime.
Play 4Kay is a nationwide initiative in which coaches bring awareness of breast cancer to the court in honor of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Kay Yow, former head women’s basketball coach at North Carolina State University, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and passed away in 2009 after facing her third bout with the disease. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund is committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women’s cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause.
One in eight women or 12.6 percent of all women will get breast cancer in her lifetime. Breast cancer is very treatable if detected early. More than 1.7 million women who have had breast cancer are still alive in the . Please join Covenant Health and wear something pink to the Sunday, Feb. 12 Lady Raider game.
