Hospice of Lubbock Earns Veterans Designation

We Honor Veterans label requires training and understanding

Hospice of Lubbock announced today (Jan. 14) it has earned the Level 3 designation of the 4-level We Honor Veterans (WHV) designation.

WHV, an initiative developed for hospice organizations by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization and the Department of Veteran Affairs, focuses on internal and external education to enhance staff and volunteers' understanding of the needs of hospice patients who are veterans.

"America's veterans have done everything asked of them in their mission to serve our country, and we believe it is never too late to give them a hero's welcome home, said Charley Wasson, Hospice of Lubbock executive director. "Now it is time that we step up, acquire the necessary skills and fulfill our mission to serve these men and women with the dignity they deserve."

Hospice of Lubbock staff is already working to achieve the Level 4 designation and have initiated numerous best practices to ensure care that is sensitive to veteran patients' needs.
