How long do I have to decide if I want to apply?
You will want to get your application in as soon as possible insure consideration. Applications will be accepted the first 30 days of class. Please visit the website for deadlines.
Can I apply for more than one plan?
No. Effective January 1, 2009, students are no longer allowed to apply for more than one HealthTraxx plan.
Is everyone who applies approved?
No, we have a limit on how many students we can approve each year. We review employment and education histories as well as perform a criminal background check and review references. We also take into account any information you provide in your letter to the HealthTraxx committee.
What does the HealthTraxx commitment entail?
You will work for Covenant Health full-time in your new profession after graduation for the length of your agreement. You will be eligible to apply to work in ANY department within Covenant that has a full-time opening in your new career field. We do not choose a department for you. You will have up to 30 days after graduation to accept a position. You do not have to fulfill the entire commitment in this department. You will be eligible to apply to transfer every 6 months. Covenant Health System includes: Medical Center, Lakeside, Plainview, Levelland, Home Health, and Covenant Medical Group.
Does participating in HealthTraxx disqualify me from anything?
If you accept HealthTraxx Tuition Reimbursement, you will not be able to be reimbursed by CHS AGAIN for the same school program. Other than that, you will be eligible for every other incentive that is offered to you non-HealthTraxx classmates.
If there is a sign-on bonus offered after graduating, how will this commitment work with the HealthTraxx commitment?
There are no guarantees from year to year that there will be a sign-on bonus. However, if there is one when you graduate and you already participated in HealthTraxx, you will still be eligible. In fact, we will fulfill the commitments concurrently. For example, if you have a one-year HealthTraxx commitment and you sign a one-year sign-on bonus agreement, your total commitment time is still 1 year. If you do not accept a bonus, you will be eligible to apply to transfer to another department every 6 months. If you accept a bonus, you will not be able to transfer during this commitment time. You would need to stay on the unit that paid the bonus to you for the full length of your bonus agreement.
What happens if I do not honor the HealthTraxx commitment?
You will have to pay back the HealthTraxx assistance that was paid to you, with the risk of a significant penalty if you go to work for a non-Covenant Healthcare Provider within a 75-miles radius of Lubbock. Because there is a limit on how many awards we can give out, we want to make sure we are awarding the individuals that want to start their careers as part of the Covenant ministry. The penalty exists to discourage someone who does not want to join Covenant from taking assistance that could be given to another deserving individual. In these instances, HealthTraxx suffers losses, posing a threat to the continuation of the program.
