          The Sister Maureen Van der Zee Excellence in Nursing Award is presented to an individual who displays, among numerous outstanding qualities, excellence and professionalism in the performance of their duties.  This individual also serves as a role model for the values-based competencies in line with our four core values of Dignity, Excellence, Service, and Justice.  The 2007 nominees for this award include:

          The Irene Wilson Excellence in Nursing Award is presented to an individual who displays excellence and professionalism in the performance of their duties as well as knowledge and competency in performing nursing skills.  This individual also serves as a role model and mentor by sharing nursing knowledge with other less experienced nursing staff and students.  In addition to helping others grow professionally, this individual also seeks professional growth through attending workshops and attaining advanced academic credentials and/or specialty certification.  The 2007 nominees for this award include:

          Dr. Alex Munson presents the Tender Touch Awards annually to recognize the simple act of caring or “Tender Touch” in nursing.  These awards serve as a tribute to his mother, Vera Susan Elizabeth Bradbury Munson, RN, who devoted 41 years of her life to nursing.  The awards are presented to an Adult, Maternal/Child, and Student nurse.  Each recipient applies the art of nursing with support and encouragement beyond the standard “quality of nursing care”.  They go beyond the “call of duty” in ministering care to others.   The 2007 Tender Touch Award recipients are:  Adult –Patsy Cardona, RN, -JACC; Maternal/Child  - Denae Hanes, RN, Pediatrics; and Student – Karyn Ballman.

          Each unit presents an Outstanding Nurse Award to a nurse that demonstrates excellence in many areas including:  clinical competency, professional appearance, communication, organizational skills, mentoring, teamwork, and membership in professional organizations and/or hospital committees.
