My Covenant Experience
Involved in a multitude of sports, Neil Curlee is a rambunctious 14-year-old who's always looking for the next big rush. During one such escapade last summer, Neil jumped from a 16-foot balcony onto a pole vault mat—incurring serious head injuries in the process. Suddenly, this active teenager was fighting for his life. He was rushed to Covenant Children's Hospital, where he spent the next two weeks in the pediatric intensive care unit, followed by two more weeks in rehab. Fortunately, the staff turned Neil's prolonged hospital stay into a positive experience.
"Everyone was great. I got along with one of the nurses so well that he even came to visit me on his days off," said Neil.
In fact, now almost fully recuperated and back in his honors level classes, Neil still makes time to go back to the hospital and see the friends he made there. Because of his injury, he's had to scale back his activities this year, but thanks to Covenant Children's Hospital, he knows there are a world of athletic challenges still waiting for him.
