    Physician Bio

    Dr. Richard Ranne is a pediatric general, cardiothoracic and congenital cardiac surgeon at Covenant Women’s and Children’s Hospital. He specializes in the surgical care of infants and children including cardiothoracic procedures, laparoscopy, surgical endocrinology and surgical oncology.

    Dr. Ranne has published findings related to a wide variety of disease process and surgical procedures. Some examples include: neurologic deficit following gastric portioning and the possible role of thiamine, prenatal diagnosis of intralobar pulmonary sequestration, and relief of subglottic stenosis using anterior cricoid resection. Prior to arriving in Lubbock, Dr. Ranne practiced in Oklahoma for 21 years. Dr. Ranne was a clinical professor of surgery and pediatrics at the University of Oklahoma in Tulsa. He was an assistant clinical professor of surgery at the University of Arizona in Tucson and held a similar position at the University of Missouri, Kansas City. Also while in Arizona, Dr. Ranne was the head of the Department of Surgery at CIGNA. While in Oklahoma, he retained a pediatric cardiothoracic and general surgery practice. At Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Dr. Ranne served as the chairman of the Department of Surgery and the surgical medical director of Pediatric Surgery and ECMO.

    Dr. Ranne is a member of the following professional organizations: American Medical Association, Lubbock County Medical Society, Texas State Medical Association and American Pediatric Surgical Association.

    Dr. Ranne completed his residency in general surgery at the University of Arizona. His fellowships in pediatric surgery and cardiothoracic surgery were performed at the University of Missouri, Kansas City. Dr. Ranne completed his fellowship in congenital cardiac surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital through Harvard Medical School.

    Dr. Ranne is board certified in general surgery and thoracic surgery and holds special certification in pediatric surgery.
