Diagnostics

In order to provide you with the best treatment possible, Covenant Orthopedics uses the latest imaging technologies available to make a diagnosis. Our certified technicians perform a variety of helpful tests, including X-rays, CT scans and MRIs.

X-rays

The diagnostic process almost always begins with X-rays. Although we take special precautions with our pregnant patients, X-rays are safe, effective and very fast. The process works by shining electromagnetic waves through your body, exposing your internal structure to film. Bones and other dense matter appear white, while soft tissues and breaks look dark.

CT scans

Computed tomography scans (CT scans) combine X-ray technology with computerized imaging to provide more detailed, cross-sectional images of your body. CT scans are commonly used to help diagnose patients with problems in small, boney structures, or those who have trauma to the brain, spinal cord, chest, abdomen or pelvis.

MRIs

While magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans also produce cross-sectional images of your body, they work without radiation. Instead, they use magnetic fields aided by computers to take high-resolution pictures of your bones and soft tissues. Patients with torn knee ligaments and cartilage, torn rotator cuffs, herniated disks, or hip and pelvic problems may benefit from an MRI.
