Joint Replacement

Covenant Orthopedics offers patients the latest, most advanced joint replacement techniques, including minimally invasive hip resurfacing procedures, in our state-of-the-art facilities. When you have a joint replacement done at Covenant, you’ll receive the best possible care—from your first pre-operative class to your last rehab appointment.

Who Is a Candidate for Joint Replacement Surgery?

Patients suffering from incapacitating joint pain or extremely restricted flexibility and motion are primary candidates. However, before resorting to total joint replacement, our doctors attempt to help you find relief through less-invasive procedures.

What Happens During Surgery?

While you are under general anesthesia, the surgeon removes the damaged parts of the joint and replaces them with metal and plastic prosthetic parts. For instance, in a hip replacement, the damaged ball is removed from the femur and replaced with a metal prosthesis, and a plastic socket is implanted into the pelvis. These materials are tough, durable and can last longer than a decade.

What Is the Recovery Period Like?

In the days following surgery, you may take part in our Joint Ranch program or choose to recover in our traditional orthopedic unit. Both help get you back on your feet and using your new joint quickly. Most patients are permitted to go home within three to five days, but continue rehabilitation on an outpatient basis. While you will experience some pain, it should disappear within a few weeks or months.
