Coronavirus (COVID-19) Precautions at Covenant Health

LUBBOCK, TX- As the number of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases continues to grow around the globe, please know this: We’re prepared for today, we’re preparing for tomorrow, and we are sharing information to keep you and your family safe.

Currently, we have not had any positive tests for 2019-nCoV (Novel Coronavirus) in patients in our West Texas/eastern New Mexico region. Please note, the risk of human-to-human transmission is extremely low.

Our caregivers are prepared to manage a positive diagnosis. We are monitoring this issue closely and taking precautions to ensure the safety of our patients, caregivers, visitors and community.

  • Covenant Health is prepared to treat and control virus outbreaks and the spread of infectious disease, including COVID-19.
  • As part of our efforts to ensure the safety of our patients, caregivers and visitors, we screen for potential cases of Coronavirus, using a series of criteria including recent travel history.
    • We have implemented a screening system in our electronic health record to help identify patients at risk for this infection.
    • If we receive a patient with a travel history and symptoms suggestive of COVID-19, we will follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) recommendations.
  • A key part of our preparation has been our partnership with public health officials. In the event of a patient with COVID-19 symptoms, we will work with our partners in public health to provide treatment.
  • Patient privacy, as well as caregiver and community safety, are top priorities.
  • At this time, we have supplies needed to manage this issue and, if necessary, we have plans in place to shift supplies from parts of our system with excess, to others in need.

How to take care of yourself and your family
Protecting yourself from COVID-19 involves the same precautions known to protect against the common cold or seasonal flu. Help prevent yourself and loved ones from getting sick by following these tips:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a cleaning spray or wipe.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your health care provider. Covenant Medical Group has four urgent care locations, in addition to the walk-in clinic at Grace Clinic. We also have a children’s specific urgent care.

Please visit www.covmedgroup.org or www.gracehealthsystem.com for locations and hours.
