Educational materials:

  • Teaching dolls— Children can learn about surgery and other medical procedures by play-acting the experience with a doll as a patient. The Child Life and Education Department has a pattern for making these dolls.
  • Toiletry kits (for parents and young adults)— Toothbrush and toothpaste, comb, brush, deodorant, shaving cream, disposable razors, soap, shampoo and conditioner, etc., in a freezer bag.
  • School boxes— A school box with crayons, pencils, ruler, glue, scissors, etc., is helpful for patients involved in the Hospital School Program.
  • Banners— Please create designs on poster board and leave a large space for name to be written in. We appreciate your creativity in artwork and designs, but suggest “Happy Birthday!” “Happy Holidays” or “Congratulations.” We suggest avoiding the use of “Get Well Soon,” “I Love You,” or “God Bless You.”
  • Monthly calendars— It’s easy to lose track of time while in the hospital. You can help by designing a monthly wall calendar on poster board. A general outline is all that is needed. The patients like to fill in the months, days and numbers.
