LUBBOCK – After a year long, nation-wide search, Covenant Health System is pleased to announce Scott Robins, M.D., as chief medical officer for Covenant Health System, effective August 2007. He has practiced medicine in Lubbock since 1981, and has served in numerous leadership roles at Covenant throughout the years, most recently as Chief Medical Officer of Covenant for Covenant Specialty Hospital and Interim Chief Medical Officer of Covenant Medical Group.
In his new role as CMO of the health system, Dr. Robins will continue to build positive relationships with medical staff and will collaborate with local and regional physicians in relentless pursuit of exceptional quality and safety for patients.
“When searching for a CMO, we were looking for a physician with excellent communication skills, dedication to quality, and demonstrated commitment to patients,” said Melinda Clark, president and CEO of Covenant Health System. “Scott Robins has all these qualities and much more. He has strong personal and professional integrity, and truly leads from the heart.”
Dr. Robins will replace previous CMO Robert Salem, M.D. Dr. Salem served as CMO from 1998-2006, and currently serves as Chief Medical Officer Emeritus for Covenant Health System.
“Dr. Robins is an excellent physician, a dedicated leader and is focused on quality of care for our patients,” said Dr. Salem. “We are excited to have his communication skills and clinical excellence in the forefront of our leadership team at Covenant.”
Since the formation of Covenant Health System in 1998, Dr. Robins has served on the Quality Council, Quality Review Committee, chaired the Physician Council and Quality Council, and served on the board of trustees for both Covenant Medical Group and Covenant Health System. His civic involvement include AIDS Consortium, National Kidney Foundation, team physician for Texas Tech Football, LakeRidge United Methodist Church board of trustees, and Chancel Choir at First United Methodist Church. He and his wife, pediatrician Linda Robins, M.D., have raised three children in Lubbock: Jeffrey Alan, Whitney Rebecca and Jordan David.
