Chamber Employer Health Plan Wins Top Statewide Chamber Award

January 26, 2007

The Lubbock Chamber of Commerce this week received top honors in a statewide Chamber of Commerce competition held by the Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives (TCCE). The Lubbock Chamber received “Community Development Program of the Year” for its Chamber Employer Health Plan, which is a community collaboration with FirstCare Health Plans, Covenant Health System and UMC Health System.

“We’d like to share this award with our collaboration partners as well as the almost 5,000 Chamber members and their families who have enrolled in the Chamber Employer Health Plan. The Lubbock Chamber is honored that the Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives has recognized our outstanding Chamber Employer Health Plan as the top Community Development program of any Chamber in the state,” said Chamber Chairperson Steve Verett. Approximately 20 percent of those covered by the plan were previously uninsured, he noted.

The Chamber Employer Health Plan is available to employers in Lubbock, Crosby, Floyd, Garza, Hale, Hockley, Lamb, Lynn, and Terry counties. Membership in the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce is required, and the plan must be purchased from a FirstCare-qualified agent who is a member of the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce. Information about joining the Chamber is available by calling (806)761-7000. More information about the plan is available by contacting FirstCare Sales & Marketing at (806)783-9654.

Every year, the Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives (TCCE), the oldest organization in the country for training and educating chamber professionals, presents awards for excellence in Chamber programs at their annual Volunteer Conference. Intended to create a benchmark for other chambers of commerce with similar budgets, the contest spotlights outstanding programs statewide. All entries were critiqued by a professional panel of chamber experts and community development specialists.

TCCE is an organization of chamber executives from across the state, working together to improve the business climate in Texas, while developing ways to enhance the quality of life in the communities that they represent. Since 1906, TCCE has been enhancing and promoting the professional growth of chamber executives, by providing leadership for chamber employees through its many publications, resources, and conferences.
