Covenant Diabetes Support Group Meeting to Focus on “Low-Impact Exercise”

Covenant Diabetes Support Group Meeting to Focus on "Low-Impact Exercise"

(LUBBOCK) – Regular exercise should be a part of everyone's daily routine according to the health experts at Covenant. According to the American Diabetes Association, it is especially important to maintain the health of people living with diabetes. The Covenant Health April Diabetes Support Group Meeting will focus on low-impact exercise tips and ideas for diabetics.

The group will meet Monday, April 2 from 6 – 7 p.m. at the Knipling Education Conference Center, located on the sixth floor of the west parking garage at the corner of 21st Street and Louisville Avenue.

Exercise does not have to be intensive to be effective according to this month's speaker, Krista Hoffarth, fitness specialist for the Covenant LifeStyle Centre.

"Physical activity reduces risk for stroke and heart disease. It doesn't necessarily mean running a marathon. The heart rate being elevated is what is important," Hoffarth said.

Support group attendees will learn various low-impact exercises from Hoffarth designed to keep the heart rate elevated. Following the presentation, the group is encouraged to take part in a roundtable discussion regarding any diabetes-related topic. This event is free and open to the community. Covenant urges community members to come learn more about understanding diabetes.
