We cannot do what we do at any of our facilities without the support of
our community partners.
In April of 2013,
Covenant Children’s partnership with
Racer Classic Car Wash began. The leadership at Racer Classic generously proposed donating $1
per wash on the third Tuesday of each month from the general public and
$1 any day of the week from Covenant Health employees showing their badge.
Since 2013, Racer Classic has donated more than $100,000 to Covenant Children’s,
specifically for the Racer Car Classic Performing Arts Theater.
“We don’t just put these types of rooms in our hospital for
Dr. Amy Thompson, CEO of Covenant Children’s, said. “Really, the activities
and things that happen in these rooms for children contribute to healing.”
This special theater is available to patients during visits to the hospital.
Patients are able to sing, dance, act, play games and enjoy special shows
in this room. Performers from Ballet Lubbock, the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra,
Texas Tech Theater, Hub School, Caerus Ensemble, All Saints School, Carillon
Reader’s Theater, magician Irving Quant, and South Plains College
Ballroom Dance group have served as volunteer entertainers for our patients
throughout the years.
“The theater provides a space for children to experience the creative
arts both as active participants and active observers,” Christine
Neugebauer, manager of integrated care at Covenant Children’s, said.
“In addition to providing pleasant and enjoyable events through
entertainment and performances, children have opportunities to be creative
and express feelings through song, dance, or puppetry in interacting with
our many artist volunteers as part of our
Arts in Medicine program.”
