We Honor Veterans: Four-Star Partner

Many Americans are surprised to learn that 25% of all deaths in the U.S. are military veterans. We at Hospice of Lubbock are proud of our designation as a full partner agency in the We Honor Veterans program, which was developed by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization in collaboration with the Department of Veteran Affairs. This was designed to empower hospice professionals to meet the unique needs of terminally ill veterans and their families.

Through this program, staff and volunteers are taught respectful inquiry, compassionate listening, and grateful acknowledgement to comfort your loved one with a history of military service and possibly physical or psychological trauma. In addition, the team remains vigilant to environmental and other factors which could trigger fear, anxiety, and/or painful memories from the past.

Our hospice team presents certificates of appreciation and Red/White/Blue lap quilts to each veteran, and recognizes your loved one in other ways on military commemorative dates throughout the year. This process includes strengthening relationships with veteran agencies, maintaining a veteran-to-veteran volunteer program, providing community education, and celebrating our veterans.

Hospice of Lubbock strives to provide the most comfortable and comforting end-of-life experience possible.
