Meet Our Bariatric Doctors Travis D. Eggl, D.O. Dr. Travis Eggl is board certified in general surgery and fellowship trained in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He grew up on a farm and ranch in North Dakota. He went to Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, and then medical school at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of South Alabama, finishing his training with a fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Eggl now has a bariatric and foregut surgery practice in Lubbock, Texas, with West Texas Bariatrics at SWAT Surgical Associates, a comprehensive multidisciplinary weight loss program serving West Texas and Eastern New Mexico. He is the bariatric surgery medical director and vice chief of general surgery at Covenant Medical Center. Dr. Eggl performs a variety of laparoscopic and robotic gastrointestinal surgeries including sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, bariatric surgery revisions, LINX procedure, fundoplication, paraesophageal/hiatal hernia repair, and reflux surgery revisions. He is a member of ASMBS (American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery), SAGES (Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons), and ACS (American College of Surgeons). Dr. Eggl is married and has two daughters and a new son. He enjoys spending time with his family, riding horses, mountain biking, hunting, and fishing. Contact Information Adam Purtell, M.D. Dr. Adam Purtell is board certified in general surgery and is one of the few Fellowship Trained Bariatric Surgeons in the state of Texas. This means that he has received additional highly specialized training in Bariatric surgery. Dr. Purtell received his medical degree from University of Texas Medical Branch Galveston and Texas Tech Department of Surgery. Dr. Purtell then traveled to Houston where he completed his one year Fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopy and Bariatric Surgery with the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He is also a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Purtell returned to the west Texas community that he grew up in and joined SWAT Surgical to provide bariatric and general surgery to the citizens of west Texas and eastern New Mexico. He specializes in Revisions of Bariatric surgeries, Gastric Sleeve, and the Gastric Bypass and robotic general surgeries. Dr. Purtell enjoys spending time with his wife and four children.
