Covenant C.A.R.E Channel
As we continue our journey toward delivering holistic care to patients
and families, incorporating our Mission into our daily work remains at
the heart of why we do what we do as compassionate caregivers.
“And He saith until him, I will come and heal him.” Matthew 8:6
Starting in June 2011, the Covenant Pain Team implemented the C.A.R.E.
Channel on all TVs in Covenant Medical Center and Women’s &
Children’s hospital patient rooms, the Emergency Departments, waiting
rooms and Pre-Op areas on Channel 17. The C.A.R.E channel is available
24 hours a day and provides beautiful nature scenes and instrumental music
designed to reduce anxiety and create a healing environment. Patients
can view 72-hours of non-repetitive music and images. At night, The C.A.R.E.
Channel features a midnight starfield that is especially effective during
the long nights when many patients experience heightened loneliness and fear.
The C.A.R.E. Channel reflects our Mission by caring for the whole person--body,
mind, and spirit. According to Regina Phariss, R.N., Covenant Pain Team
Leader, “it enhances the total healing experience by reducing pain,
anxiety and stress for our patients, families and staff.”
Everyone is encouraged to use The C.A.R.E. Channel to create a healing
environment. Some of the Pain Team’s suggestions include:
During Admission to Floor or Returning from Procedures—have The C.A.R.E. Channel playing when patients return from procedures
to instill a restful, welcoming environment.
Assistance with Pain Management—use The C.A.R.E. Channel as a resource for demonstrating our Mission
and as a proven tool for reducing anxiety and providing a quiet, healing
environment to assist in reducing pain.
To Provide Increased Privacy—play The C.A.R.E. Channel in Pre-Op/Procedure bays and ED rooms
as a backdrop to promote the dignity of patient privacy
Support for End of Life Care—offer to play The C.A.R.E. Channel in respect of this sacred time of life.
For Quiet, Meditative, Prayer Time –suggest turning the TV to channel 17 to listen to The C.A.R.E.
Channel when patients or families are seeking peace and time to reflect.
To Assist in Sleep—when patients have difficulty sleeping, offer to turn on The C.A.R.E. Channel.
Tune in to The C.A.R.E. Channel on channel 17 to see how we are working
diligently to provide holistic, compassionate care for our patients.
